Management and Administration Placement with Greater Manchester Combined Authority (Safer and Stronger Communities Team)
The Safer and Stronger Communities team supports the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in their statutory role as Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester, supporting and overseeing the work of Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. We are responsible for writing the Greater Manchester Police and Crime Plan, setting the budget for Police and Fire, holding the Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer to account, setting the Council Tax precept and overseeing the Independent Custody Visitors programme.
Alongside these responsibilities, the team also manages several high-profile programmes aimed at ensuring the safety of Greater Manchester’s communities. Initiatives include the Violence Reduction Unit, the Gender-Based Violence Strategy, Programme Challenger (serious and organised crime), the Hate Crime Plan, Vision Zero (road safety), the Drug and Alcohol Strategy and Victims Support Services.
The team works alongside a range of partners including the ten Greater Manchester Local Authorities, Police, Fire, the Probation Service, the Criminal Justice System and a large number of Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector Organisations.

About the placement
You will have the opportunity to work in various areas of the business, having a direct involvement in projects and programmes whose objective is to prevent and reduce crime and associated issues across Greater Manchester. This will involve preparing for and attending meetings, developing presentations, undertaking research and analysis and having experience of project and contract management. You will engage with a wide range of key partner organisations, including those delivering frontline services to communities.

About the T Level – Management and Administration
During the 2-year programme, students will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of management and administration occupations.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in a career in management and administration.

Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:
- business context – an overview of organisational cultures and values, different types of internal and external stakeholder, different forms of governance and the impact of organisations on society and the environment
- project and change management – an understanding of the common change management theories and models and how to support and improve projects
- business behaviours – the importance of good communication and adapting social communication styles to professional standards and according to purpose, medium and audience
- quality and compliance – the importance of maintaining and improving quality in all aspects of public and private sector organisations
