By joining our busy manufacturing site within the Equipment maintenance and installation team you will gain a fantastic insight into the uses and maintenance high-tech tools we use to produce our intricate products. The equipment we use to produce our product can be compared with light robotics as the tools produce various parts of the product with great intricacy and accuracy working by the nanometre. The tools also use many special gases, chemicals, and precious materials to create the semiconductor chips. These tools are used in a cleanroom environment around the size of a football pitch that is up to 1000 times cleaner than an operating theatre!

About the placement
You will work on a large team reporting into the Principal Engineer and will learn how to maintain the specialised equipment to ensure we meet strict production requirements. You will be involved in various levels of maintenance and will gain an understanding of the tool maintenance programmes, safety principals, housekeeping routines and the correct use of tooling and instrumentation procedures. Through this work you will eventually gain valuable fault finding skills to enable to you solve problems and provide resolutions to equipment issues.
Please be aware that this position requires you to wear fully protective clothing whilst working in the cleanroom environment.

About the T Level – Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing
During the 2-year programme, students will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of maintenance, installation and repair occupations.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in a career in maintenance, installation and repair for engineering and manufacturing.
Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:
- working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors – an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products
- essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing – a knowledge and understanding of mathematics including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry
- materials and their properties – understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques
- business, commercial and financial awareness – basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation
