Digital Production, Design and Development Placement with Greater Manchester Combined Authority (Youth Employment and Opportunities Team)
An exciting opportunity to work with GMCA on websites which are all about supporting young people. We are looking for Digital Production, Design and Development T Level students to help us develop our suite of websites, contributing their eye for design, coding skills and knowledge of young people’s needs.

About the placement
GMCA are looking for a Digital T Level student focusing on web development to join the Youth Employment and Opportunities team within the Work & Skills directorate. We are currently building out our digital capabilities in response to residents’ needs across Greater Manchester, and this placement would be working with a small team looking after a number of websites: GMACS, Curriculum for Life, Employ GM, and the directorate’s pages on the GMCA website – and potentially more still to come. These websites are focused on helping and supporting residents in GM to take their next steps into education or work.
To succeed in this placement, you’ll need knowledge of HTML and web technologies, as well as an eye for designing engaging and captivating content for residents in GM. Our websites are predominantly based in WordPress, although we use other platforms and technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Working with our team to design and develop digital content (written and visual) and tools for residents in GM
- Uploading web content to various websites using Content Management Systems
- Working on new functionality with existing websites
- Developing accessibility features and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards
- Ensuring we are using residents’ data in secure, compliant and responsible ways
- Working with APIs or other data sources to create useful features for residents

The team focuses on making sure that young people in Greater Manchester have the right education and skills to succeed in life, whether this is by going on to further education or entering the workforce.
About the T Level – Digital Production, Design and Development
During the 2-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of digital occupations.
This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in software production and design.
On the course, students will develop an understanding of:
- how digital technologies impact business
- the ethical and moral implications of digital technology

- using digital technologies to analyse and solve problems
- digital environments, including physical, virtual and cloud environments
- emerging technical trends, such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Blockchain, 3D printing
- legal and regulatory obligations relating to digital technologies
- the privacy and confidentiality of personal data
- the technical, physical and human aspects of internet security
- planning digital projects
- testing software, hardware and data
- digital tools for project management and collaboration
