Management and Administration Placement with First Bus
We are excited to support students on the Management and Administration T Level by offering a work placement, particularly as we play a key role in the development of TfGM’s Bee Network – an integrated transport system aiming to revolutionise connectivity across Greater Manchester, and our involvement in this initiative offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an essential and evolving sector.

About the placement
While on placement, tasks will allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, giving them insight into how businesses operate while contributing to our goals, including:
- Administrative Support: Assist with general office tasks such as filing, handling correspondence, and data entry.
- Stakeholder Communication: Learn how to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Internal Communications: Draft internal newsletters or email announcements to improve office communication.
- Facilities Management: Help manage inventory of office supplies, organize office spaces, or assist with office equipment maintenance.
- Community Engagement: Assist with planning and coordinating social value projects, such as charity initiatives or environmental sustainability campaigns.
- Impact Reporting: Help compile data and reports on the social and environmental impact of company initiatives.
- Events Support: Participate in organizing events or workshops for employees or the local community.
- Research: Conduct research on potential social value programs or community needs, and present findings to management.
- Data Collection & Reporting: Help gather data for various departments and present it in reports or presentations.
- Quality Assurance: Assist in monitoring quality standards within operations and suggest areas for improvement.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: Work with colleagues in different departments to learn how collaboration drives business success.
About the business
First Bus is one of the UK’s largest bus operators, with a fleet of more than 4,800 buses carrying over a million passengers a day. We serve more than 20% of the population in the UK with our local bus services. We also run buses on behalf of organisations ranging from schools to distribution centres and major construction sites.
First Bus is leading the transition to a low-carbon future and are committed to operating a zero-emission bus fleet by 2035. We have established ourselves as a leader in vehicle and infrastructure electrification as we progress towards our commitment of a 100% zero emission bus fleet by 2035. We now have three fully electric bus networks and six other depots partially electrified, with c.600 zero emission buses, c.13% of our fleet.
About the T Level – Management and Administration
During the 2-year programme, students will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of management and administration occupations.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in a career in management and administration.
Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:
- business context – an overview of organisational cultures and values, different types of internal and external stakeholder, different forms of governance and the impact of organisations on society and the environment
- project and change management – an understanding of the common change management theories and models and how to support and improve projects
- business behaviours – the importance of good communication and adapting social communication styles to professional standards and according to purpose, medium and audience
- quality and compliance – the importance of maintaining and improving quality in all aspects of public and private sector organisations
