Oakwood Engineering have worked on a number of exciting and high profile projects over the years, including Wembley Stadium, the new roof for the Metrolink area at Manchester Victoria, a large railway bridge near Granada studios and currently the new roof for one of the country’s most prolific sporting stadiums.
This apprenticeship is in steel detailing and involves gaining experience in all areas relating to construction modelling, advanced 3D modelling and BIM. You will learn about modelling/detailing; co-ordination between work packages; onsite buildability and construction methods and estimating and planning.
This is a great opportunity to start a career that can last a lifetime. Candidates will ideally have an interest in maths and engineering and looking at how things are built and put together.
You will be responsible for:
- Preparing detailed engineering designs for structural metalwork
- Producing technical drawings and schedules
- Working with clients and contractor partners
- Assisting with the development of 3D models to contract design information and deadlines
- Utilising various methods of communication as and when required
Apprentices must show commitment to the following:
- To achieve apprenticeship standard within the specified time frame
- Attend the apprenticeship induction programme
- Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary
- Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme as requested
- Any other duties as deemed appropriate by senior staff

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The qualification you will gain is:
- Engineering Design & Draughtsperson Level 3
You will learn how to:
- The apprentice will be trained in aspects of disciplines such as principles of design, identify and analyse design options and selecting the appropriate design, types of drawings and specifications, characteristics of materials, producing drawings using appropriate computer aided design packages such as AutoCAD, Revit and/or Tekla and abbreviations and symbols used in design and draughting
How will it be delivered:
- 2 ½ Year Apprenticeship Programme
- Design and Draughting Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours - delivered in the workplace
- Level 3 BTEC in Construction and the Built Environment - Day Release or Remote Delivery (Optional Qualification)
- Specialist Training Programme Blocks of your choice
- End Point Assessment - Knowledge Test, Practical Test and Presentation/Interview
Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you will have the chance to work as a qualified Digital Design Technician.
