School at home made easier

If you haven’t got a laptop, tablet or internet at home, it’s pretty hard to join online classes, research courses or ask for help. Books are great for home study but it’s even better to ask a teacher online when you get confused.

The GM Tech Fund has been set up to get every young person access to online education, even after schools and college are open again. Virgin Media Business has already put a huge amount of money into the Fund. GMCA, who run GMACS, has also put in £150,000. The Fund has worked with local councils and sent out 567 ’Digital Kit Bundles’ to some state funded mainstream schools and colleges, but it’s not enough.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, is asking businesses to help every young person can learn at home. Businesses can help by:

  1. Donating new or refurbished devices, particularly laptops
  2. Donating sim cards, portable hotspots, dongles and other connectivity devices
  3. Donating money to buy the kit
